The houses, each with its own entrance, were traditionally modest dwellings, but we have maximized space and comfort to give the feeling of a 'home away from home'. There is a master bedroom and suite in each, along with a comfortably sized bathroom with shower.
The accommodations each have a handmade wooden, or wrought iron double bed in the main bedroom with comfortable Cocomat mattresses, and 1 or 2 sofabeds in the suite. The fabrics for the beds and cushions are supplied by FS Home Collections in The Netherlands, suppliers to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The traditional white Corfiot curtains are all hand-made locally.
Toiletries include: Gilchrist & Soames ‘BeeKind™’ soap, shampoo and shower gel. Apostolos Patounis handmade pure olive soaps are also available for purchase | traditionally hand made green olive or pure olive soaps make ideal gifts.
Other complimentary items, in addition to those above, include; a mini bar, a small kettle, Nespresso coffee (AAA Sustainable Program), bottled water, a selection of teas, milk, sugar, honey and lemon.
The Merchant’s House was originally three traditional dwellings side by side that were recently completely rebuilt by hand, using local limestone and the same methods they had used some three centuries earlier. Each suite has been individually restored and decorated with a dash of Venetian style to mirror the past, whilst providing a contemporary level of comfort, 'tradition with a twist'.
*The rooms naturally remain fairly cool and breezy with their thick walls and the slight temperature drop in the mountain. For the hottest days of the summer air conditioning is available at a small surcharge of €5 per night. ** The wifi is free, but please be aware that the village doesn't support a particularly strong signal, but good for emails etc.
Breakfast is included, and served daily from 09.00 - 10.30am on the terrace. The menu can be seen in your information packs. Note: there is a €2,50 supplement for freshly squeezed orange juice, and at busy times sittings may be staggered or on shared tables. If it rains? Breakfast is served in 'The Katói.'
If you have to get up and go earlier than 09.00 please let us know the day before. We’ll arrange for fresh orange juice, pastries, and a selection of fruit to be in your room that evening. Together with your in-room tea and coffee facilities, you’ll have all you need to get you up and running the next morning.
NO SWIMMING POOL! As the village is a protected heritage site (under the preservation order of the Archaeological Department of the Ionian islands) please note, that there is no swimming pool in Old Perithia. However, many of the island’s finest ‘blue flag’ beaches are nearby and take approximately 15 minutes to reach by car.
SHOPS & TAVERNAS The village has 4 well known tavernas, each serving traditional local food sourced mainly from the mountains and local producers. There are 2 places that sell the local honey and the majority of the tavernas also serve drinks, ice creams, tea and coffee. Pre or dinner drinks can be taken on the terrace or in 'The Katói' located adjacent to the garden suites.
The nearest local shops are currently in New Perithia, approximately 10-15 minutes drive from the village,
you'll find a couple more tavernas there too. For larger supermarkets, other shops, doctors, dentists, pharmacists, dry cleaners etc. either Kassiopi or Acharavi are closest (20 minutes drive), although Acharavi has easier parking on either side of the main road. Need anything else? We're happy to help point you in the right direction.
