The Merchant’s House is not just the only place to stay in the village of Old Perithia, but these are the first old houses outside of Corfu town, to be restored in their original traditional detail, as a boutique bed & breakfast, in strict accordance with the exacting standards of the archaeological department of Corfu and the Ionian islands.

The Merchant’s House consists of six suites, built entirely by hand. They sit side by side with a small path to the rear, a walled garden to the front and side, and stone steps leading down to a cobbled road that winds its way down to the ‘village square’. It is located at the top of the village, in a protected heritage site and an area of outstanding natural beauty. The Merchant’s House is fully licensed by EOT, The Greek National Tourist Organisation.

All of the upper suites no.’s 1, 2 & 3 are the larger of the 6 with their tall ceilings and raised position. Whereas, no.’s 4, 5 & 6 are smaller ‘traditional’ homes leading directly onto the garden. Every suite has its own front door and each one is recreated exactly as it was in 1828. Nevertheless they all offer tradition, inspiration from Venice, and a twist of contemporary living...

This top floor suite overlooks the village and mountainside. It has a master bedroom with double bed, bathroom with shower, and suite with a single sofa bed and desk. It’s currently used as the residence of the owners, Mark & Saskia, and so only available by special arrangement (when they’re not staying and looking after their guests!) Accommodation, up to 3 guests. Prices on application.

The third of the upper suites, with views of the village and mountains, has a master bedroom with double bed, bathroom with shower, suite with two sofa beds and own entrance up some single steps to the side of the property. It can accommodate up to 4 Guests. Prices from €125 per day, incl. breakfast and all local taxes.

This smaller traditional country ‘weavers’ home has been divided into a master bedroom with double bed, bathroom with shower and a separate suite with a single sofa bed. It also has a desk for those wishing to find a quiet place to work. The front door opens onto the gardens and views down to the village and across the surrounding countryside. Accommodation for up to 3 guests. Prices from €115 per day, incl. breakfast and all local taxes.

Booking Options for Your Stay at The Merchant’s House

The Merchant’s House offers the following booking options for your stay:

  • A minimum 7-night booking applies during peak times (July & August.)
  • A 3-day-weekend booking (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) or a 4-day-week booking (Monday to Thursday) is available during spring & summer (March, April, May, June & September). During winter (from October to November inclusive) we accept a minimum 2 day booking throughout the week.
  • The Merchant’s House suites are for up to 2 adults, but some have additional sofa beds in the suites for children aged between 5 – 15 years. An additional supplement of €35 (including breakfast and taxes) applies to each additional guest. No pets are allowed.
  • All bookings to be paid in full in advance (see also cancellation terms and conditions). The Merchant’s House has the right to not to accept a booking at its own discretion.
  • Arrival check in: after 3pm and Departure check out: prior to 11am

Cancellations

  • For 7 nights or more a 50% cancellation fee applies from 8 weeks prior to your booking date and is only refundable if the property is re-let for the same period.
  • For 3 or 4-day bookings the 50% cancellation fee applies from 3 weeks prior to your booking date and is only refundable if the property is re-let for the same period. Bookings made within 3 weeks of the booking dates cannot be refunded.
